PASTOR
Dr. Charles “Chuck” Ray Brawley became the Pastor of First Baptist Church on March 3, 2006. Pastor Chuck is a graduate of High Point University, and holds two Masters Degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas. He earned his Doctor of Ministry from Gardner-Webb University in 2004.
Becky and Chuck were married on January 3, 1976 and have two married adult children, Stacy and Jason. They also are blessed with six grandchildren. Pastor Chuck was born in High Point, NC and has served churches in High Point, NC, Morgan Mill, Texas, Dundee, Florida, and Faith, NC before becoming Pastor of First Baptist Church.
His philosophy of ministry is based on what Jesus described as the two greatest commandments: to love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength; and to love your neighbor as you love yourself. All the law and prophets are summed up in these two commandments. Following these two commands, Pastor Chuck leads us into ministries that seek to meet the various needs of people by building caring relationships with them. If you really care about people, you will do something about their needs. We try to base the ministries of our church on the foundation of first loving God and then loving others. This kind of love leads us to meet not only the physical and social needs of people, but more than that we are led by God’s Spirit to meet the spiritual needs of the people we meet. Through our friendships and love for others we hope that they will see and meet Jesus. Having a personal relationship with Jesus is the most important choice that a person can make. Knowing Jesus gives us real life.
SECRETARY
Mary Anne Hurst is our church secretary. She has served us for over four years. She provides information for members, keeps our giving records, and works for the Treasurer of the church to provide for the financial needs of the church. Mary Anne keeps our calendar and makes reservations for the use of our facilities. She records our Wednesday Evening Prayer List and helps keep the Pastor up to date on the needs and welfare of the congregation.
If you need the Pastor, you can call the church office at 704-629-4158 and Mary Anne will know where the Pastor is and most of the time can contact him on his cell phone.
Our Secretary also attends some of our committee meetings and our church council meetings for the work that she does in keeping our church calendar up to date and sending out information through our newsletter.
Our monthly newsletter is printed in our Baptist State Convention Newspaper and mailed to each member’s home. The church provides the State Newspaper to keep our members informed about the work of our church and denomination. Mary Anne manages the subscriptions and produces the newsletter. Announcements may be placed in the newsletter by calling the church office by the fifteenth of the month prior to publication.
MUSIC MINISTRY
Carol Clemmer is our volunteer Music Director. She works with the choir and our Praise Team. The Choir meets on Sunday evenings at 6:00 for rehearsals. The Praise Team meets at 6:30 (or when choir rehearsal ends) and on Wednesday evenings at 8:00. Our choir and Praise Team are open to anyone who would like to volunteer.
Carol is a long time member of our church and volunteered to lead our Praise Team and music in January of 2009.
CUSTODIAN
Teresa Jones is our part time custodian. She takes care of our sanctuary, education building, and Family Life Center. She has been our custodian for one year.
Teresa is a very active member of our church leading our young people in a variety of ministries.
CHILD CARE CENTER DIRECTOR
Glenda Ware is the Director of our Child Care Ministries. She has served our church for years.
Under her direction, our Ministry has grown in number and quality of care. In 2006, our Center qualified with the State of North Carolina as a five star facility. In April of 2009 our Center was recertified by the State as a five star facility.
Glenda, with the help of our Child Care Center Committee has provided quality child care for people in our community along with a variety of updates to our facilities that have helped us become better able to serve our neighbors and members.
