MINISTRY PROGRAMS
SUNDAY SCHOOL
Our Sunday School Program provides small group Bible studies for our members. Some classes are age graded while adult classes are lifestyle oriented. These weekly studies meet generally on Sunday mornings at 9:45 and dismiss at 10:45. Teachers facilitate studies and discussions that help each Christian to discover biblical truths and how to apply them to every day living. Some of our members provide Sunday School lessons in homes of shut-ins and for some of our nursing home members. These Bible studies can be provided at other times and days as needed. Sunday School helps us ground our members in God’s Word so that they can reflect the glory of God in their everyday living.
DISCIPLESHIP EDUCATION
We offer a variety of short term studies that help develop spiritual disciplines. Courses cover topics from spiritual fruit to church polity to personal financial planning (stewardship.) Courses are scheduled to accommodate those who are enrolled. They may meet any day of the week, but generally meet on Sunday evenings.
WMU (WOMEN’S MISSIONARY UNION)
WMU provides missions education and promotion in our church. As a NC Southern Baptist Church we give to support almost 10,000 missionaries located all over the world. WMU helps us stay informed about the ministries and work of our missionaries both international and right here in North America. The ladies provide studies, set offering goals, and promote the church’s giving to missions causes. In addition to these tasks, WMU provides opportunities for our ladies to take an active role in mission work. Mission action projects are planned and carried out here in the Bessemer City community. Ministries like prayer walks, sewing quilts for the local NC Highway Patrol Troopers to give to children, and supporting our NC Children’s Homes and NC Baptist Hospital are include in the work of our WMU. Our ladies also provide missions education for our girls in our G.A. program (Girls in Action.) The ladies meet on the second Sunday of each month at 5:00 PM.
BAPTIST MEN (BROTHERHOOD)
Baptist Men (formerly known as Brotherhood) meet each second Sunday evening at 5:00. Their programs include videos, guest speakers, mission studies, and mission projects. They have provided mission services such as building handicap ramps and hosting the NC Dental Bus. The Baptist Men also sponsor our Royal Ambassador Program (R.A.’s). This is our missions program for boys grades K-6. They meet on Wednesdays at 7:00 PM. and are involved in a variety of activities that inform and educate them about our mission as Christians. Camping and hiking are also an important part of their programs.
MUSIC
Our Music Ministry is led by volunteers who help us with a blended style of worship. Our worship includes contemporary choruses and traditional hymns. We have both a traditional Choir and a Praise Team that lead our music. Carol Clemmer plans our worship music along with David Lutz who plays our organ. The Choir and Praise Team are open to any members who enjoy serving the Lord through music. Our worship team and choir is made up of adults and youth. We have Children’s Choir that meets on Wednesday evenings at 6:00.
YOUTH
Our Youth Ministry is open to young people grades 6-12. They meet on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 for Bible Study. The studies are topical asking the young people for their opinions and then measuring our opinions by what the Bible says. The evening begins with supper at 6:00 which is free for our children, youth, and workers.
Our Youth Ministry has been involved in a variety of activities. In 2006 we went to Gulfport, Mississippi to help repair homes damaged by the hurricanes. In 2007, we went to Norfolk, Virginia to work on homes of folks who could not afford to make their own repairs. In 2009, we attended our Baptist State Youth Camp. This year we will go to Fort Caswell the week of July 13-18.
CHILDREN
Our Children are offered a variety of seasonal activities through Sunday School and our Children’s Activities Committee. This summer we will offer our children’s ministry day on Mondays. For the last three years we have had Terrific Tuesdays. This year we will have Marvelous Mondays. Trips, games, Bible Study activities and snacks will make up Marvelous Mondays. A schedule of events will be available the last week of May.
The children also are invited for supper on Wednesday evenings during the school year. Children’s Choir is at 6:00 with supper at 6:30. G.A.’s (girls) and R.A’s (boys) are missions action groups that meet at 7:00 on Wednesdays.
During the summer, our children’s choir does not meet. We also do not serve supper during the summer months. Our R. A’s and G. A.’s continue to meet during the summer months at 7:00.
SENIOR ADULTS
Our Senior Adults meet the first Tuesday of each month at 10:30 for our Happy Hearts. They share a program followed by a covered dish lunch. The programs are host to speakers, musicians, and poets. Once in a while they have Bingo and sometime travel together for lunch at a local fish camp.
Once each month our Senior Adults visit a nursing home to sing. This provides entertainment for the residents and a blessing for those of us who sing. After singing, we usually go out together for supper.
RECREATION
Our church has sponsored a variety of recreational activities. We have sponsored a volleyball team and a co-ed softball team along with summer movie nights and a block party that included inflatable rides and a cook out. Fellowship within the church is a very important part of our spiritual walk.
WEEKDAY CHILD CARE CENTER
Our church ministers to our community by providing a weekday Child Care Center. It is a state approved four star facility. We currently have around 60 children that we are ministering to. Glenda Ware is our director along with a staff of about 14 teachers and aides. We provide care for bed babies through after school care. One of the blessings of our heritage is the marvelous Children’s Building we have for this and our other ministries.

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving."
